Since retirement I find that I now have the time and
inclination to follow my many interests in the world of nature.
Bird Watching has been my
main interest, closely followed by Butterflies, Dragonflies Bumblebees and Bees
and I now find myself being drawn into the mysterious world of Moths.
A subject I know very little about, but armed with a couple
of Field guides on Moths, a newly acquired "Skinner Moth Trap" I am
totally hooked.
The anticipation of investigating a nights catch in the
early hours of the morning is very addictive, Photographing the moths caught
has been challenging, to say the least, frustrating is understatement.
Most of the Moths caught
up to now all seem to be
described as 'Common and Widespread' for me that's not
a problem, every new moth caught and identified is as exciting as seeing a rare specimen,
I live for the day when I finally trap a Hawk Moth though.

I'm playing catch up at the moment, trying to record
previous catch's from the garden since
first putting the trap out. this will allow me to keep a record of the individual
species caught around the garden.
I do not expect to have many views on this particular blog,
more a means to an end for recording Moths seen.
But if any interested ' moth-ers ' find themselves visiting this
blog and notice any misidentifications please let me know so that I can correct
them,
I expect there will be many as there seems to be many species variations and similar looking moths to confuse the beginner.
